Maharashtra’s Toll Plazas To Accept Only E-Tag And FASTag Payments: Check Key Routes And Dates
From April 1, motorists passing through toll plazas in Maharashtra will no longer be able to pay tolls in cash, according to a Midday report. The new rule, which comes into effect at midnight on that day, will see all toll fees collected exclusively through E-Tag or FASTag.
This move follows the National Highways Authority of India's (NHAI) policy of May 24, 2021, and earlier notifications from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the Public Works Department. A Government Resolution issued on February 14, also supports this transition.

According to a public notice from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), if a vehicle is not fitted with a FASTag or enters the toll plaza without a valid, functional FASTag, the driver will be charged double the applicable toll fee. Drivers will no longer be able to pay with cash, smart cards, POS, credit/debit cards, QR codes, or any other payment method apart from E-Tag or FASTag.
This new policy will apply across several key routes. These include the Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link (Bandra-Worli Sea Link), Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and NH-48. The five main entry points to Mumbai at Vashi, Airoli, Dahisar, Mulund EEH, and LBS Marg Mulund/Thane will also be affected.
Additionally, toll plazas on the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg (23 toll plazas), the Integrated Road Development Project of Nagpur (five toll plazas), and other major projects across the state will implement the cashless payment system.
The change is part of a broader effort to streamline toll collection, improve traffic flow, and encourage the use of electronic payments for greater convenience and efficiency.
