Maharashtra Weather Watch: IMD's Red Alert And Orange Alerts Signal Extreme Rainfall In Key Districts

Mumbai continues to face periods of rainfall, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a yellow alert for the city and forecasts a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 28 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is likely to be around 24 degrees Celsius.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Regional Meteorological Centre stated on Monday, "Local forecast for Mumbai city and suburbs for the next 24 hours: Moderate to heavy rain is expected in the city and suburbs, with the possibility of very heavy rain in isolated areas. Occasional gusty winds, reaching speeds of 45 to 55 kilometres per hour, are also likely."

Mumbai Weather Forecast

Mumbai is expected to experience mostly rainy weather over the next five days. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for July 23 and an orange alert for July 24.

24 July: Temperatures will range from 24 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius, with a generally cloudy sky and heavy rain.
25 July: Temperatures will range from 24 degrees Celsius to 27 degrees Celsius, with a generally cloudy sky and moderate rain.
26 July: Temperatures will range from 24 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius, with moderate rain.
27 July: Temperatures will range from 23 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius, with rain.
28 July: Temperatures will range from 23 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius, with rain.

IMD Alerts

I. Red Alert:

Ratnagiri: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at a few locations, with extremely heavy rainfall likely at isolated places.

Satara: Extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated at isolated locations in ghat areas, with moderate rain expected in the plains.

II. Orange Alert:

Raigad, Sindhudurg: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations.

Pune, Kolhapur: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted at isolated places in ghat areas, with light to moderate rain expected in the plains.

III. Yellow Alert:

Palghar, Thane: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations.

Dhule, Nandurbar: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds (30 to 40 kilometres per hour) are expected at isolated places.

Nasik: Heavy rainfall is forecasted at isolated places in ghat areas, with light to moderate rain expected in the plains.

Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are most likely to occur at isolated locations.

Maharashtra Monsoon

The IMD predicts that there is a possibility of more than average rainfall in most parts of Maharashtra. The 'El Nino' ​​condition may remain neutral in the initial phase. But in the second phase of monsoon i.e. in July or August, 'La Nina' condition is likely to occur. The Meteorological Department has clarified that the La Nina conditions are favourable for this year's monsoon in the country.
