Maharashtra CM Defends Police Action: Shooting Of Sexual Assault Suspect Ignites Political Firestorm!
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde defended the police's decision to fatally shoot the Badlapur sexual assault suspect, Akshay Shinde after he allegedly opened fire on them during transport for questioning.
"He was taken in for investigation following a complaint of sexual assault lodged by his ex-wife. When he fired at the officers, injuring Police Officer Nilesh More, who is now hospitalized, the police acted in self-defence," Shinde stated, adding that further details would emerge as the investigation unfolds.

Akshay Shinde, 23, was shot dead by police near the Mumbra bypass while being escorted by the Thane Crime Branch. This incident has drawn criticism from opposition parties, including Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress, who allege foul play.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also supported the Thane Police's actions, emphasizing that Akshay Shinde had reportedly snatched an officer's firearm and fired shots, prompting the police response. "If he had attacked the police, wouldn't they have the right to defend themselves? It's inappropriate to politicize this matter," he remarked.
This case has caused public outrage, particularly after two minor girls were allegedly assaulted by Akshay Shinde in a school toilet in Badlapur, where he was contracted for cleaning. Following his arrest on August 17, protests erupted, and on September 3, the Bombay High Court urged police to construct a "watertight" case, cautioning against hasty actions influenced by public pressure.
