Karanja-Revas Bridge: Will This New Route Really Cut Travel Time From 2 Hours To Just 30 Minutes? Check Here
The new four-lane bridge linking Karanja (Uran) and Revas (Alibaug) over Dharamtar Creek is set to reduce the travel time between Uran and Alibaug to just 30 minutes by road, as reported by Hindustan Times. This project, inaugurated by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde before the code of conduct came into effect ahead of the assembly elections, promises seamless connectivity that will benefit both locals and tourists. Currently, the 70-kilometre journey between Revas and Karanja takes about two hours.
The bridge, part of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation's (MSRDC) 498-kilometre Revas-Redi Coastal Highway project, is one of seven bridges being built to connect the Konkan region to Mumbai. This highway aims to improve road travel between Raigad and Sindhudurg districts. Once completed, the new road will also reduce the overall travel time from Mumbai to the Konkan region to just an hour.
The Karanja-Revas bridge is a key element of this project. It spans 10.25 kilometres in total and includes a 2.04 kilometres long section over Dharamtar Creek. Designed to allow vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 80 kilometres per hour, the bridge will feature 1.5 metres wide pathways on both sides for pedestrians. The approach road from Karanja will be 5.13 kilometres long, while the road from the bridge to Revas will be 3.08 kilometres long, with a portion of it constructed on stilts.
In addition to improving commuting times, this bridge will also play a significant role in boosting the economy of the coastal Konkan region. It will reduce the distance between Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Alibag from 55 kilometres to about 30 kilometres, making transportation quicker and more efficient.
Local resident Pradeep Mhatre highlighted in HT the benefits of the bridge, stating, "Motorists will save both time and money, as they will be able to reach Alibag in just over 30 minutes, compared to the current two-hour journey."
CM Shinde stressed the importance of the bridge, calling it a "game-changer" for both residents and tourists. He noted that it will provide faster access to coastal areas, including popular tourist destinations in the Konkan region, and boost economic activities by improving transport links.
