In the 2019 Assembly elections, the undivided Shiv Sena, in alliance with the BJP, contested 19 seats in Mumbai, winning 14, while the BJP secured 16 seats. The Congress, contesting 29 seats in alliance with the undivided NCP, won four, and the NCP won one out of the six seats it contested.

This time, the Mahayuti alliance includes the BJP contesting 149 seats, the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) fielding candidates in 81 constituencies, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP contesting 59 seats. On the opposing side, the MVA alliance consists of Congress with 101 candidates, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) contesting 95 seats, and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP fielding 86 candidates.

Exit polls conducted after the November 20 polling day suggest that the BJP maintains an edge not only in Maharashtra but also in Jharkhand, where elections for 81 assembly seats were held in two phases.

The assembly election witnessed intense campaigning, with prominent leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra rallying across the state to secure voter support.
