Mangalore University student raped by Professor

The shocking incident came to light on October 29, Wednesday when the victim staged a silent protest in the University campus by holding a placard saying, "Dr Vedava, You have cheated me. You have done injustice to me. I want justice from you."
As per a report published in Mangalore Today, the Associate Professor in the Department of Commerce of Mangalore University has been accused of raping the girl on the pretext of marrying her.
The victim told media-persons that "Dr Vedava raped her at her home at Kaikunje in Bantwal Taluk on June 2, 2013 when she was alone."
She has also complained the matter to the University Vice Chancellor Prof K Bhyrappa.
The V-C has sent a notice of explanation to Dr Vedava. After receiving a reply from him, the V-C has assured to initiate an action against him, as per the University norms.
The victim reportedly came into Dr Vedava's contact when she was studying Kodava language under the University's Kannada Development Project.
She has filed a rape case against the Professor at Bantwal police station.
An India Today report said that victim has demanded that the accused professor should marry her otherwise she will continue the protest.
The professor continued physical relations with the student on the promise of marrying her, but off late, he started avoiding her.
Dr Vedava says allegations are 'baseless'
Meanwhile, Dr Vedava, who has been accused of raping the University student, has claimed that the allegations are 'baseless' and it is a conspiracy to defame him.
He was quoted as saying, "I knew the victim. I hail from a good background. These charges are baseless. I will fight this case legally. I am open to any kind of inquiry."
