Yogi Adityanath Urges Public To Help Needy As UP Steps Up Action Against Cold Wave

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, announces extended cold wave relief including night shelters and blankets, alongside a ₹24,496.98 crore supplementary budget for 2025-26 to sustain development and support essential sectors.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged citizens to help vulnerable people facing the harsh cold wave and has also moved to scale up government spending through a supplementary budget for 2025–26, highlighting both welfare measures and financial planning by the Uttar Pradesh government.

Yogi Adityanath appealed to residents to look after domestic workers, sanitation staff, security guards and nearby support staff, and to check that these groups have proper protection from the severe cold, stressing that community support is essential alongside the Uttar Pradesh government response.

The Chief Minister wrote on X in Hindi, "The government is working with full sensitivity and promptness to protect people from the cold wave in north India. Officials have been instructed to adopt a humane and highly sensitive approach," underlining the tone of the Uttar Pradesh government’s instructions.

According to Yogi Adityanath, night shelters across Uttar Pradesh are functioning at full capacity with arrangements for quilts, blankets, drinking water, bonfires and heaters, and these centres are also hosting "Examinees coming from other places and relatives of patients are also being provided shelter here. For the government, every human life is invaluable," the CM said.

The Uttar Pradesh government is additionally distributing woollen clothes and blankets through urban local bodies and tehsils, and Yogi Adityanath said that bonfires have been set up at several public locations so that people without proper housing can access warmth during the continuing cold wave.

Alongside the cold wave measures, the Yogi Adityanath government presented a supplementary budget of ₹24,496.98 crore for the financial year 2025–26 in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly’s winter session, with Finance Minister Suresh Khanna explaining the reasons for this extra financial provision.

Khanna told the House, "It has been introduced to sustain the momentum of development, provide additional resources to essential sectors, and fast-track schemes in response to emerging needs." The minister said this supplementary exercise supports the broader financial planning of the Uttar Pradesh government.

The Finance Minister reported that the original 2025–26 budget stood at ₹8,08,736.06 crore and that the supplementary allocation equals 3.03 percent of that figure, and added, "With the inclusion of the supplementary provisions, the total budget outlay for the financial year has now increased to ₹8,33,233.04 crore."

Together, the welfare actions during the cold wave and the supplementary budget presented by the Yogi Adityanath government show a simultaneous focus on immediate protection for vulnerable residents and on supporting schemes and sectors across Uttar Pradesh through added financial resources in 2025–26.
