Samajwadi Party's Saharanpur riot report sparks off blame-game with BJP

Saharanpur riot report in controversy
Lucknow, Aug 18: The Samajwadi Party's report on riots in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh has started a new blame-game among the political parties.

While the SP report blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders for inciting violence, the latter called the report politically motivated, reported media.

The five-member probe committee headed by Public Works Department Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav had submitted its report to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday. The report said that BJP leaders sparked off the riots and it was a criminal conspiracy by the party.

The report also held the lapses by the local administration responsible for riots.

While SP leader Azam Khan said, "It is a criminal conspiracy. The BJP experimented this in Muzaffarnagar.", BJP leader Raghav Lakhanpal hit out at the SP's statement saying, "The SP is trying to divert the attention from the lawlessness in the state and is also trying to gain political mileage from this report."

On July 26, clashes broke out between two communities over a land dispute in Saharanpur which left three persons dead and 34 injured. 165 shops and handcarts and 42 vehicles were set ablaze in the violence.
