Rising rape cases in UP: Akhilesh Yadav to scrap free laptop scheme

During a workers' convention in Gauriganj on Monday, UP mining minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati said "those who benefitted from laptop schemes did not cast their vote to SP".
SP feels that their noble scheme back fired at them as BJP made the maximum profit in UP because of laptops with voters.
Prajapati even said that the BJP's ideologue RSS used the laptops distributed by SP, to promote BJP and Narendra Modi in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
While saying his statement as his personal view, he said, "SP should invest funds in providing facilities like better roads, water and electricity."
He also said that the state government could also consider closing other schemes like unemployment allowance, laying fences around Muslim cemeteries and welfare schemes meant for education of girl students.
If SP continues with its free laptop scheme, then, it will have to distribute it to at least 40 lakh students.
For financial year 2013-2014, the SP government had got the permission from the Planning Commission to distribute laptops at the expenditure of Rs 2,700 crore.
Last year, OneIndia had reported warning that Akhilesh's laptop scheme has a flip side too as students can become addicted towards pornography, which can lead them to commit sexual crimes.
You do your job, I will do mine: Mulayam Singh Yadav
On Wednesday, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav lashed out at media saying, "You do your job, I will do mine."
Amid nation-wide outrage over the Badaun gangrape and murder incident, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday accused the media of highlighting cases occurring in UP while ignoring those in other states.
SP could won only 5 seats out of 80 seats in UP while BJP swept away with 73 seats and Congress could get only two seats.
Assembly elections will take place in 2017 in Uttar Pradesh, till then SP can find ways to control rising crime against women in the state, that has even outraged the world.
