Noida International Airport Set For Inauguration This Month: UP CM Yogi's Big Announcement

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Monday that the long-awaited Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi within this month. The declaration marks a significant milestone for the infrastructure project, which has faced multiple deadlines.

Addressing a press conference, Adityanath stated that the airport construction is complete, and the final crucial step-obtaining the aerodrome licence from the regulatory authorities-is in its concluding stages. "I believe that this month, the airport will be inaugurated by the prime minister," he said.

Upon becoming operational, the Jewar airport will officially become Uttar Pradesh's fifth international airport, significantly boosting the state's connectivity and economic profile.

The Noida International Airport is a major greenfield project being developed in the Jewar area of Gautam Buddh Nagar district under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The first phase of the project, constructed on approximately 1,300 hectares, was originally scheduled to commence operations by September 2024 but has encountered several delays.

Designed as a key alternative to the heavily congested Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi, the NIA is a pivotal component of the National Capital Region (NCR) plan. It is set to become the third commercial airport in the Delhi NCR region, alongside IGI and Hindon Air Force Station (which handles limited commercial flights).

The scale of the project is vast. The initial phase is being built to handle an estimated 12 million passengers annually. With subsequent expansions planned, the airport's capacity is projected to grow dramatically, aiming to serve between 60 to 120 million passengers per year by 2050.

The imminent inauguration of the Noida International Airport is expected to decongest air traffic in the national capital region, provide a substantial impetus to industrial and real estate development in western Uttar Pradesh, and create a new major logistics hub in North India. All eyes are now on the formal announcement from the Prime Minister's Office confirming the inauguration date.
