The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, nearing completion with a scheduled operational start in the first week of April, will reduce travel time between the cities to 45-60 minutes, with vehicles permitted to travel at speeds up to 125 kmph; it includes 18 km of elevated roadway, five toll plazas, and connects Lucknow's Shaheed Path with Azad Marg near Kanpur.

Once operational, the expressway will significantly cut travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur from nearly three hours to about 45-60 minutes, as vehicles will be allowed to travel at speeds of up to 125 kmph.

Final Phase Of Construction Underway

Regional officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Gautam Vishal and PD Nakul Prakash Verma, inspected the expressway stretch from Lucknow to Kanpur along with members of the media. They also reviewed the Kanpur Outer Ring Road project during the visit.

Officials confirmed that traffic is likely to begin in the first week of April. The development is expected to have a visible impact on both the economy and society in the region. The Kanpur Outer Ring Road will help reduce congestion in the city and is projected to make traffic movement three times faster.

The expressway is being developed as a strategic growth artery for western and central Uttar Pradesh, enabling faster logistics, safer travel, and opening up new investment opportunities across the Lucknow-Unnao-Kanpur belt.

Advanced Monitoring And Expandable Design

According to the Project Director, the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is equipped with 63 pan-tilt-zoom cameras capable of capturing ground activity in real time. The road has been designed as a fully access-controlled corridor under the NE-6 route.

It will initially operate with six lanes, with the provision to expand to eight lanes as traffic demand rises. Vehicles will be permitted to travel at speeds of up to 125 kmph. The expressway connects Shaheed Path in Lucknow with Azad Marg near Kanpur.

The project includes approximately 18 km of elevated roadway and 45 km passing through greenfield areas.

Toll Plazas, Bridges And Underpasses

There are five toll plazas along the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway that will manage vehicle entry and exit. The route features three major bridges and 28 smaller bridges, along with 38 underpasses and multiple flyovers to ensure smoother traffic flow.

The toll plazas are equipped with auto-controlled access ramps, further enhancing efficiency and reducing delays for commuters.
