LS polls 2014: RLD leader Amar Singh ropes in Bollywood star power

is all set to contest Lok Sabha elections 2014 from the Fatehpur Sikri rural seat in Uttar Pradesh in the seventh phase of polls.

The former Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh, who has been busy in campaigning since his candidature was announced from Fatehopur Sikri, has been heavily banking upon his Bollywood connections.

Of late, in an attempt to woo voters, he has invited popular stars like Jaya Prada (who is contesting from Bijnore on RLD ticket), Sridevi, Boney Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Raza Murad and Asrani, in his roadshows.

In fact, he has a few more movie actors lined up in the run-up to the April 24 polls.

Recently, he took a dig at Bollywood actress Hema Malini, who is contesting from Mathura on BJP ticket.

He had said, "We don't want Dream-Girl but farmers. we don't want the madam who uses branded perfume of Paris but the candidate who could descend the legacy of Charan Singh".

Jaya Prada, Sridevi, Boney Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia were roped in for roadshows.

Only time will tell, whether Amar Singh's witty tactic of roping in Bollywood stars will generate votes or not.

A "Thakur", 58-year-old Amar Singh hails from Azamgarh in eastern Uttar Pradesh and has assets worth about Rs 100 crore.

Till 2010, when he was in SP, he had a cordial relationship with the Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan. But, the ties strained when he parted ways with SP.

Amar Singh will face BJP's Choudhary Babu Lal, SP's Pakshalika Singh and AAP's Laxmi Choudhary from Fatehpur Sikri on April 24 polls, the third phase in the Hindi heartland.

This time RLD has formed an alliance with Congress and is contesting on eight seats out of total 80 LS seats.

It will be in the poll fray on April 24 in Mathura, Hathras, and Fatehpur Sikri and has already contested in other five constituencies in previous phases.
