"Kick us out if we don't do anything": How Modi's emotional appeal resembles that of Mamata

Allahabad, June 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (June 13) told the audience in a rally that if the latter did not find the BJP doing any good to the state in five years, it can kick the party out. [Modi gives 7-S mantra for BJP]

The wordings at Triveni Sangam would rattle many a ear for they were uttered by the same man who gave an impressive speech at the US Congress just a few days ago.

But herein, lies the man's ability to manouvre between poles and the politics related to them. On his return from the US, Modi shifted gears to become a "UPwala" and hence was such a speech. [Modi takes potshots at SP, BSP]

Modi, in this regard, can be compared to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. During the Assembly polls in Bengal held in April and May, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo had taken up the entire responsibility to canvass support for her party candidates across the state. At a time when a series of sting operation videos against some top TMC leaders released by the Opposition looked threatening and even the old enemies---Left Front and Congress---joined hands to defeat her, Banerjee made it a point to emotionally appeal to the electorate. Begging for votes, she even told in a number of rallies that if the people thought she was a thief who took bribe, they were welcome to reject her.

But Banerjee came back---even stronger than 2011. Modi is also executing a similar strategy, given the fact that the BJP lacks a cohesion and too many leaders are aspiring to become the CM face.
