Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that Uttar Pradesh has transformed since 2017, moving from a source of migrant labor to a key driver of national growth, citing improvements in law and order, connectivity, and the rise of industries like electronics and IT. Shah mentioned cultural milestones like the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj as well.

Addressing a public event in Lucknow, Shah launched a sharp attack on the Samajwadi Party and Congress, accusing them of years of misgovernance.

UP's image has changed after 2017, says Shah

Shah said that before the BJP formed the government in Uttar Pradesh, the state had been reduced to what he described as a "Bimaru rajya" by the Congress and SP. He argued that the political shift in 2017 marked a turning point for the state's economy and governance.

"Every district of the state will have employment opportunities. Youth will not have to go out of state for a job. There was a time UP was considered a source of labour. Today, it is a growth engine. Congress and SP had turned the state into a Bimaru rajya. Today, it is the growth engine of the country," Shah said.

Employment, infrastructure and law and order highlighted

The home minister claimed that such a transformation would have been unthinkable before 2017. According to him, improvements in law and order and connectivity have played a crucial role in changing Uttar Pradesh's prospects and attracting investment.

Shah maintained that better governance had created conditions for industries to grow within the state, reducing the need for young people to migrate elsewhere for work.

Ram Mandir, Mahakumbh cited as cultural milestones

Linking development with cultural identity, Shah referred to major religious and cultural landmarks in the state. He pointed to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj as symbols of Sanatana Dharma and Uttar Pradesh's civilisational importance.

"Ram Mandir has come up in Ayodhya. The Mahakumbh in Prayagraj is an example of Sanatana Dharma. Today, UP exports 11 per cent of its electronic goods. Today, UP is an IT Centre and a Data Centre. Before 2017, no one could have imagined that UP would become the country's growth engine. Law and order have improved in the state. Connectivity has improved in the state. UP in every age has played an important role in keeping the country secure," Shah said.

Focus on industry and exports

Shah also highlighted the state's growing role in electronics manufacturing, IT services and data centres, claiming that Uttar Pradesh now accounts for a significant share of the country's electronic goods exports. He said these developments have positioned the state as an emerging economic hub, reinforcing his claim that Uttar Pradesh has become central to India's growth story.
