A popular tale associated with Lohri involves Dulla Bhatti—a hero who rescued two young Brahmin girls named Sundari and Mundari from local goons intending to present them to a Mughal Emperor.

Dulla Bhatti successfully saved these girls on Lohri day itself! He then arranged their marriage amidst great celebration attended by villagers who blessed them with happiness along with cereals & clothes gifts!
