Hariyali Amavasya: A Celebration of Devotion to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati

Hariyali Amavasya, also known as Sawan Amavasya or Shravan Amavasya, is a significant Hindu festival. Celebrated on 24th July 2025, this festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is observed with great devotion across various parts of India, including North India, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat.

Hariyali Amavasya falls three days before Hariyali Teej during the Shravan month. This month is the fifth in the Hindu lunar calendar and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The festival marks the beginning of the monsoon season and is believed to ensure a good harvest and prevent droughts. Worshipping trees, especially the Peepal tree, is an important ritual on this day.

Hariyali Amavasya Devotion to Lord Shiva

The day begins with devotees taking a holy dip in sacred waters before sunrise. They then worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with utmost devotion. Observing a fast and performing puja rituals are common practices. In some regions, grand fairs are organised to celebrate this auspicious occasion.
