Mamata Banerjee to meet PM Modi after Singapore visit: Report
According to a report published in Anandabazaar Patrika on Thursday, the West Bengal chief minister was initially supposed to meet Modi during her visit to New Delhi in early August to attend the wedding of the son of President Pranab Mukherjee's personal secretary.
But the plan was changed later as Banerjee is scheduled to tour districts in her state, the report said. On August 17, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief would leave for Singapore. The CM have reportedly informed the prime minister's office about her meeting with Modi after returning from Singapre, the report added.
Mamata has reportedly said that she is not in favour of boycotting the BJP PM
Banerjee made the headlines during the Lok Sabha election by attacking Modi, even threatening to not allow Modi become the PM and even send him to jail. The latter did not take on Banerjee but raised his pitch gradually after Banerjee launched her scathing attack. The political circles have been closely watching these two leaders since then, particularly Banerjee, for her state would require a fair assistance from the Centre to revive Bengal's struggling economy.
The open spat between the TMC and BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha a few days hinted at a non-conformity between the two parties in the near future.
A section of the TMC supporters, however, said it was just a matter of time before Banerjee met Modi as the former was never in favour of boycotting the prime minister, the report added.
