Earthquake effect: Metro services suspended in Kolkata, Delhi

Kolkata, April 25: Metro railway services were suspended here after after-effects of an earthquake in Nepal were felt on Saturday morning. [Follow updates on earthquake]

Panic-stricken people were seen rushing outside the office buildings and market complexes after a series of tremors were felt across the city.

The air-conditioining systems were switched off in trains between Siliguri and Kolkata. The trains were also stopped.

Several parts of North India felt the after-effects. Metro services were also stopped in Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that the government was seeking information on the earthquake and was making all-possible efforts to reach out to the effected, both in India and Nepal.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was also monitoring the situation from the control-room in New Delhi. he was set to leave for Patna later in the day.

Extensive damages were reported from Nepal where a magnitude measuring 7.4 in the Richter Scale took place.
