COVID-19 West Bengal: 747 Active Cases Reported, State Hospitals Ready

West Bengal has reported 747 active COVID-19 cases and one death, prompting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to review the state's preparedness. Speaking after a high-level meeting, Banerjee reassured citizens that while vigilance is essential, there is no reason to panic over the current situation.

State Reviews COVID-19 Preparedness

The Chief Minister chaired a comprehensive meeting with Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, senior health officials, representatives of civic bodies including the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, and officials from the Panchayat Department to assess the situation and review the readiness of the state machinery.

"According to official data, there is no cause for panic regarding the current COVID-19 scenario in West Bengal. However, we must remain cautious and alert," Banerjee stated after the meeting.

Banerjee: We Must Be Alert, Not Alarmed

Emphasizing the importance of not inciting fear, Banerjee said, "We reviewed our preparedness thoroughly. Hopefully, the pandemic won't return in a severe form, but we must remain watchful and avoid unnecessary panic."

She also urged special caution for vulnerable groups. "Those with pre-existing conditions, especially involving the lungs or chest, need to be more careful. Age is also a factor. These days, even regular cases of cough and cold tend to raise suspicion of COVID," the Chief Minister added.

Health Infrastructure Fully Equipped

Mamata Banerjee assured that government hospitals are fully equipped to handle any rise in COVID cases. "Our hospitals have all necessary infrastructure in place. The situation does not warrant any drastic measures at this point. What we are seeing is more like a seasonal flu or influenza. Coughs and colds are common during the monsoon and winter seasons," she explained.

She reaffirmed the state government's commitment to the people, saying, "We were with you, we are with you, and we will continue to be with you."

As of Monday morning, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare confirmed 747 active COVID-19 cases in West Bengal along with one fatality. While officials continue to monitor the situation closely, the government has not announced any new restrictions or guidelines as of now.
