Winter Holidays In Schools: Jammu And Kashmir Announces Vacations Starting December 10
The government of Jammu and Kashmir has declared that schools in the Valley, as well as those in the winter zone regions of the Jammu division, will close for winter vacations beginning December 10, 2024. This announcement was made by Minister for School Education, Sakina Itoo, who took to the X to share the school education department's order regarding the scheduled break. This move aims to accommodate the seasonal weather conditions and ensure the well-being of students and staff during the harsh winter months.
Under the declared schedule, the winter vacation period for students in grades up to Class 5 will span from December 10, 2024, to February 28, 2025. Meanwhile, students in Classes 6 through 12 are scheduled to have their winter break from December 16, 2024, to February 28, 2025. This phased vacation system is designed to cater to the educational needs of different age groups while considering the logistical challenges posed by winter conditions in these regions.

Preparations for Board Examinations
The education department's notice further outlines the responsibilities of teaching staff during this period. Specifically, educators at government high and secondary schools are instructed to be present at their respective offices starting February 10, 2025. This directive aims to facilitate adequate preparation for the Class 10, 11, and 12 board examinations scheduled shortly after the vacation period. The proactive planning is intended to ensure that students are well-prepared and supported in their exam preparations, highlighting the government's commitment to maintaining educational standards.
Additionally, the notice emphasizes that all teachers are expected to remain available for online guidance to students during the vacation. This measure seeks to provide continuous academic support and address any queries or concerns students might have while away from the classroom. It reflects an understanding of the importance of uninterrupted learning, even in the face of logistical challenges posed by the winter season.
School administrators and teaching staff are cautioned to adhere strictly to this schedule. Failure to comply with the guidelines set forth by the education department will result in stringent disciplinary action. This stipulation underlines the seriousness with which the government views the adherence to educational policies, ensuring that the vacation period does not hinder the academic progress of students.
As the winter vacation in Jammu and Kashmir approaches, students and educators alike prepare for a period of rest, albeit with an eye towards the upcoming academic challenges. This planned break not only acknowledges the climatic realities of the region but also underscores the government's dedication to ensuring that education continues to flourish, even in the face of adversity.
