New Jammu will transform socio-economic landscape of Nagrota: Rana

Jammu, Nov 20: Provincial president of National Conference (NC) Devender Singh Rana on Thursday said here that the concept of 'Nawa Jammu' is meant to 'transform' Nagrota town, which he claimed is on the threshold of a new era. [Is Congress looking favourites in the 1st phase?]

Rana is contesting on the NC ticket from this constituency which will go to election on December 20 when the final of the five phases of assembly election will be held. [J&K assembly election schedule]

"We have already taken a modest stride towards this direction in the past few years and time has come now to take a big leap," he said while addressing a series of election meetings in the constituency.

Rana claimed that carving of Nagrota as Naya Jammu will not only lead to development but it will also create opportunities for economic uplift of the people, especially the youth.

He said the Nawa Jammu will be a destination for those believing in expansion of the capital city as Greater Jammu.

"The city has expanded in three directions but the most viable and close destination of Nagrota has still remained unexplored," he said, adding that this will be overcome by laying thrust on generating facilities required for a satellite city.

Rana said Nawa Jammu will create opportunities for youth as the constituency has immense potential to grow as a commercial hub, residential cluster and tourist attraction, thanks to its proximity to the scenic Kashmir and Ladakh besides revered pilgrimage destinations like Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and Shri Amarnathji.
