Will The Eiffel Tower Keep Its Olympic Rings After The Paralympic Games? Here's What Paris Decided!

The Olympic rings, which have adorned the Eiffel Tower since June, will remain on the iconic structure even after the ongoing Paralympic Games, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo confirmed on Saturday.

The decision was made by the mayor and approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as reported by India Today.

Olympic Rings On the Eiffel Tower And Its Importance

The rings, which have become a significant symbol during the Paris Games, will not be removed immediately, although lighter rings of the same size will eventually replace the current ones, as reported by India Today. The existing rings have been deemed "too heavy" to be kept on the monument for an extended period, according to Hidalgo.

Hidalgo also reiterated her desire to see the Olympic cauldron remain in the Tuileries Gardens. However, the final decision on this matter will be made by President Emmanuel Macron, as the site is state property.

The Paris Games have been widely praised, both domestically and internationally, for their smooth execution, with the city's most iconic landmarks providing a picturesque backdrop for the events. Mayor Hidalgo highlighted the success of the Games, noting that the French public had "fallen back in love with Paris," a sentiment she believes will have a lasting impact on the city. Plans are in place to reauthorize swimming in parts of the River Seine by the summer of 2025, as per media reports.
