'Currently Being Attacked By BJP Goons': Mahua Moitra Says Eggs And Stones Were Hurled At Her

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday alleged that she was injured after a group of people hurled eggs and stones at a venue where she was holding a meeting with party workers in West Bengal. The Krishnanagar MP accused BJP workers of orchestrating the attack and claimed police personnel present at the spot did not intervene despite the violence.

Mahua Moitra Alleges BJP Workers Targeted Meeting

Sharing videos of the incident on X, Moitra claimed she was under attack while addressing party workers inside a private office in her constituency. One of the videos showed a crowd gathered outside the building, with several people allegedly throwing eggs towards a window from where the MP was speaking. The footage also captured cheers from the crowd after the eggs struck the window.

Posting about the incident, Moitra wrote, "Currently being attacked by @bjp4india goons with @wbpolice watching on."

Claims Police Failed To Act Despite Being Alerted

In a separate video message addressed to West Bengal Director General of Police Siddh Nath Gupta, Moitra alleged that the crowd outside the venue also pelted stones, causing injuries when she approached a window.

She said she had informed the DGP and shared her location, after which police personnel reached the spot. However, according to the TMC MP, officers did not attempt to disperse the crowd and instead remained passive as the attack continued. Moitra urged the state's top police official to ensure the force carried out its duty by clearing the mob and restoring order.

Recent Egg Attacks On TMC Leaders

The incident adds to a series of similar attacks reported against Trinamool Congress leaders in West Bengal over the past few weeks.

On May 30, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly targeted with stones and eggs during a visit to Sonarpur, where he had gone to meet families affected by alleged post-poll violence. The incident reportedly left him with minor injuries, while videos showed sloganeering and a group confronting the senior leader. Following the attack, Abhishek described it as "political violence and state-sponsored terrorism" and thanked Rahul Gandhi for expressing support.

Similar Incidents Involving Other TMC Leaders

Another such incident took place on June 15 when TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh was allegedly targeted with eggs outside party chief Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence in south Kolkata. Ghosh later lodged a complaint at Kalighat Police Station, seeking action against those responsible.

In a separate case, TMC youth leader Soumitra Banerjee was also reportedly attacked with eggs while being escorted to court by West Bengal Police after his arrest in connection with a complaint filed by BJP leader Ravi Keshari, who had accused him of attacking BJP workers.

The latest allegations by Mahua Moitra have once again brought attention to the growing political tensions in West Bengal, where both the TMC and BJP have frequently accused each other of violence during political activities.
