Will Putin Congratulate Trump? Kremlin's Cautious Response To US Elections 2024 Win

As Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 US Presidential election raises questions about its potential impact on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, the Kremlin has responded cautiously, stating that only Trump's actions in office will reveal whether he follows through on his promise to end the conflict.

Despite speculations regarding Trump's second term and the possible implications for Kyiv, the Kremlin made it clear that Russia's stance on Ukraine will remain unchanged, regardless of the election results. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov explained that while Trump had previously made statements about ending the war, only his "concrete steps and words" once in office will determine his approach.

"The US is able to contribute to ending this conflict, but how and when this will happen remains to be seen," Peskov said. He also emphasized that relations between Russia and the United States are at an all-time low, and that any potential shift in US foreign policy will depend on Trump's future actions rather than his campaign rhetoric.

The Kremlin also expressed uncertainty about whether Russian President Vladimir Putin would formally congratulate Trump on his victory, noting that there were no plans in place at the moment. "We are not aware of any plans to congratulate President Trump," Peskov added, signaling that relations with Washington were unlikely to improve without significant changes in US policy.

While Trump has vowed to seek a resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war, Moscow has remained cautious. Russia's foreign ministry stated that its position on Ukraine was clear and would not change, even under a Republican administration. "Our conditions are well known in Washington," a statement read.

Some Russian officials, however, see Trump's return as a potential opportunity for a diplomatic breakthrough. Leonid Slutsky, a key Russian parliamentary official, suggested that a more constructive approach might emerge if Trump acts on his campaign promises.

Trump's statements on the Russia-Ukraine conflict during the campaign have raised eyebrows. He has repeatedly blamed US ally Ukraine for Russia's invasion, accusing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of failing to prevent hostilities. Trump also criticized President Joe Biden for allegedly "instigating" the war, a claim his campaign later clarified as targeting Biden's policies rather than Zelenskyy directly.

Despite his tough rhetoric, Trump has expressed a desire to negotiate an end to the war, saying that both sides "want to see this end" and promising to work with both parties to find a fair resolution. His previous remarks also highlighted the urgency of ending the war, with Trump noting, "It has to end at some point. He (Zelenskyy) has gone through hell."

As the world waits to see how Trump's policies take shape in his second term, it remains to be seen whether his approach to Russia and Ukraine will result in a shift in global diplomacy or whether the ongoing conflict will continue to dominate the international stage.
