China's StepFun Launches StepX Neo, Claims World's First Agentic AI Smartphone; Know Its Features

China has launched world's first mass-marketing AI smartphone, a Chinese artificial intelligence company StepFun has launched its's first phone StepX Neo. The company which was founded in 2023 by ex-Microsoft executives says that the phone has been designed a way that it will not only answer like AI but will complete the tasks also. This smartphone is designed with StepFun's own made Step Edge AI model and runs on its own AOS operation system.

AI Assistant Can Handle Everyday Tasks

The best feature of this smartphone will be StepX Neo its own build AI assistant like Gemini, called Step Amoo. However, it will be totally different from Gemini and ChatGPT as it is not just a chatbox, Step Amoo will work across all the phone's apps and system. Now users will just need to tell the feature what to do and the AI Assistant will itself do the work without even opening the app.

As for example, if anyone wants to make a plan for holiday, the AI will itself find flights, hotels, and will do booking also. It will also organise travel details and will make a proper itinerary for the you. StepFun also saying that it will learn its owner's preferences over the time and then will make better options for the person.

Live Translation in 32 Languages

According to the phone company, this phone also includes AI-powered live translation feature that will translate the phone calls, text messages, conversations, and even the text which will be seen through camera. The phone will be available to translate at least in 32 languages and dialects.

The phone is also designed to help specially travellers by showing them local information like transport, places to visit, reminders about flight check-ins and even providing visa and custom information.

Custom Operating System with On-Device AI

This smartphone runs on Step AOS, a operating system built by StepFun using Android, Linux and RTOS. StepFun says that this phone is made using "atomic capability engine" that makes the phone to use different phone functions and complete the tasks automatically.

The AI will feature and process will work directly on the phone using the Step Edge model. StepFun says the phone performs better than the other edge AI models in 29 benchmark test, however, they have not revealed which benchmark they used. The Phone company has partnered with Ctrip, Alipay, Didi, Meituan, WPS Office, and CapCut to make their AI assistant better.
