White House Lauds India as One of the World's Most Vibrant Democracies
Applauding India's vibrant democracy, the White House, on Friday, recognized the significant participation of Indian citizens in the ongoing elections. John Kirby, White House National Security Communications Advisor, expressed admiration for India's democratic process during a news conference. Kirby highlighted the extensive scale of the Indian elections, where over 969 million people are casting their votes across one million polling stations to elect 545 members of parliament from a wide array of candidates and political parties.

Kirby was addressing queries regarding the Indian electoral process and its implications on the India-US relationship. He noted that the bilateral ties between India and the United States have seen considerable strengthening, especially under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership during the last three years of President Joe Biden's administration. The White House official underscored various initiatives launched during state visits, including collaborations on emerging technologies and efforts to enhance the Indo-Pacific quad's relevance, which includes India as a key member.
The partnership between India and the US was described as "vibrant" and "active," with Kirby expressing gratitude towards Prime Minister Modi's leadership. This relationship has been marked by significant people-to-people exchanges and military cooperation, further solidifying the ties between the two nations.
In response to inquiries about President Biden's views on India and Japan, Kirby clarified that President Biden did not consider these countries xenophobic. Instead, Kirby explained that President Biden's comments were aimed at highlighting the inclusivity and participatory nature of democracy in the United States.
The White House's statements come at a time when India is demonstrating its democratic strength through its electoral process. With millions participating in choosing their future government, India's elections are a testament to its vibrant democracy. The ongoing dialogue and cooperation between India and the US reflect a mutual commitment to strengthening their partnership across various domains.
