Where Is Ex-Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina?

In a dramatic turn of events, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh reportedly fled her country amidst intense political turmoil.

On Monday, under mounting pressure from nearly two months of deadly anti-government protests, Hasina resigned from her position and left Bangladesh on a military helicopter. The chopper first took her to an army airbase, where she boarded a military transport aircraft that brought her to India.

Upon landing at the Hindon Air Base in India, she was met by India's National Security Adviser, Ajit Doval, who was closely monitoring the situation.

Hasina has since been moved to a secure, undisclosed location in India. While the exact details of her current whereabouts remain confidential, sources told India Today that she has been at Hindon Air Base for the past 14 hours, awaiting clearances from the UK for her onward travel. She is likely to be in India for a few more days.

It has to be noted that her niece Tulip Siddiq is an MP in the House of Commons and her sister Sheikh Rehana is a British citizen.

In an official address to the nation, Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman confirmed Hasina's resignation and announced the formation of an interim government to manage the country's affairs during this tumultuous period.

As the world watches closely, Hasina's future remains uncertain. Courtesy meetings have been planned during her brief stay in India, with the Prime Minister's Office keeping a close eye on developments.

The situation is fluid, and the international community is keenly observing how the events unfold in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus will serve as the chief adviser to the interim government in Bangladesh.

Speaking to The Print about Hasina's escape from the country, he said: "We were an occupied country as long as she (Sheikh Hasina) was there. She was behaving like an occupation force, a dictator, a general, controlling everything. Today all the people of Bangladesh feel liberated," Dr Yunus told The Print in an interview.
