When Barack Obama called Nawaz Sharif to discuss India visit

Washington, Feb 13: Two weeks after his visit to India, President Barack Obama telephoned Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and told him that the US supports efforts by India and Pakistan to improve ties.

"The president discussed his recent visit to India, and noted the US supports all efforts by both nations to improve ties," said a White House readout of Obama's call with Sharif Thursday. It didn't give details.

Obama called Sharif to discuss bilateral and regional issues, White House said.

"Both leaders expressed the intent to meet at a mutually convenient time," it said without giving any indication of when and where.

"The two leaders agreed to continue to work together to strengthen US-Pakistan relations and advance our shared interest of a stable, secure and prosperous Pakistan and region.

"President Obama welcomed the improved relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and noted appreciation for Pakistan's efforts to combat terrorism," it said.
