Two of the horses were seen running on the road near Aldwych. One of them collided with a parked taxi outside the Clermont Hotel on Buckingham Palace Road, causing damage to the Mercedes people carrier by smashing its windows. Another horse crashed into a parked double-decker tour bus, resulting in a shattered windscreen.

It is understood that five horses, believed to be from the Household Cavalry based at Hyde Park Barracks, initially escaped during a routine morning exercise around 8:40 am. Several military personnel were injured, including one who witnesses saw being thrown from the saddle. Eventually, all the animals were successfully contained.

Two of the horses were captured near the Limehouse tunnel, located approximately five miles away from where they initially escaped. Pictures and videos shared on social media depicted a black 4x4 vehicle with blue lights following two of the horses between Tower Bridge and the tunnel.

The London ambulance service responded to three separate calls about the horses: the first at 8:25 am reporting a person being thrown from a horse on Buckingham Palace Road; the second two minutes later at nearby Belgrave Square where two people were injured; and a third at 8:35 am at the junction of Chancery Lane and Fleet Street, resulting in a fourth person being taken to the hospital.

Witnesses near Victoria described chaotic scenes, with horses running wildly and people trying to avoid them. One witness, Roland from the tour bus company Tootbus, recounted seeing horses coming from the bus station in front of Victoria and described the situation as "total mayhem."

An Army spokesperson confirmed that several military working horses became loose during routine exercise and that all the horses have now been recovered and returned to camp. The spokesperson also mentioned that both personnel and horses injured in the incident are receiving appropriate medical attention.
