Severe Winds and Waterspouts
Jeddah recorded wind speeds of 116.68 km/h, as noted by the Makkah region's official social media. Additionally, a waterspout observed off the coast of Rabigh, located between Jeddah and Yanbu, set a new record, contributing to rising waves. The NCM is investigating this phenomenon, which has added to the weather-related concerns in the region.
Local Authorities Take Action
In preparation for the storm, Jeddah's mayoralty deployed over 4,000 personnel and 1,800 pieces of equipment to manage water accumulation and ensure the smooth flow of traffic. Efforts are concentrated on clearing waterlogged areas and reducing electrical hazards. The public has been advised to avoid these areas and to report emergencies via official hotlines.
Red Crescent Authority on Standby
The Saudi Red Crescent Authority in Mecca has mobilized 1,420 staff members and 149 vehicles, with air ambulances ready for deployment. Authorities are prioritizing road safety and responding to emergencies across affected regions, urging residents to cooperate with rescue teams, as per media reports.
Road Closures and Travel Disruptions
In response to the heavy rainfall, Al-Muhammadiyah Pass in the Mecca region has been closed due to falling rocks and water-related hazards. Other areas are experiencing similar disruptions as authorities focus on ensuring the safety of road users.
Public Urged to Stay Safe
As the rain continues, the NCM has lowered the alert level in Jeddah from red to orange, but the risks of strong winds, reduced visibility, and high waves remain. The public is urged to stay informed through official advisories, avoid waterlogged areas, and follow safety protocols to minimize the impact of this severe weather event.
