During a Juneteenth celebration in Oakland, multiple people were shot and several officers were assaulted, as reported by the police department.
The shooting incident occurred on Wednesday night near the intersection of Bellevue and Grand Avenues, following the commencement of a sideshow, according to officials.

Paul Chambers, the strategic communications manager for the Oakland Police Department, stated, "The Juneteenth events at Lake Merritt were initially very peaceful. However, at around 8:15 p.m., the situation began to change significantly as a sideshow erupted."
During a Juneteenth celebration in Oakland, an estimated 5,000 attendees gathered, with around 2,000 to 3,000 people concentrated near Bellevue and Grand Avenues, according to Paul Chambers, the strategic communications manager for the Oakland Police Department.
Chambers reported that a fight erupted nearby, drawing the crowd towards the commotion. Amidst the chaos, gunshots were fired, leading to multiple people being shot. Although the exact number of injured individuals was not disclosed, Chambers confirmed that, as of Wednesday night, there had been no fatalities.
As people fled the scene in panic, several officers attempting to manage the situation and guide attendees to safety were assaulted. Chambers did not specify the number of officers injured, but mentioned that one individual was taken into custody for assaulting an officer.
The Oakland Police Department has requested anyone with information or video footage of the incident to come forward.
