US President Joe Biden Connects Recent Hamas Attack To India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor
In a press conference held in Washington alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, US President Joe Biden raised the possibility of a connection between the recent terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel and an ambitious infrastructure project introduced during the G-20 Summit in New Delhi.
The project in question is the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC), which was launched earlier in the year with the goal of establishing an extensive railway network to connect the entire region.

President Biden, while acknowledging that he lacked concrete proof, voiced his instinctual belief that one of the factors motivating the Hamas attack was the progress being made toward regional integration for Israel and the broader region.
Biden said, "I'm convinced one of the reasons Hamas attacked when they did - and I have no proof of this; just my instinct tells me - is because of the progress we were making towards regional integration for Israel and regional integration overall. And we can't leave that work behind." as quoted by News18.
IMEEC as an Alternative to China's Belt and Road Initiative
The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) is widely regarded as an alternative to China's Belt and Road Initiative. It was jointly announced by leaders from the US, India, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union during the G20 summit in September. IMEEC comprises an eastern corridor connecting India to the Gulf region and a northern corridor linking the Gulf region to Europe.
Biden Advocates Regional Cooperation
President Biden highlighted the significance of increased cooperation in the region, emphasizing that Middle Eastern nations working together both economically and politically could significantly alter the dynamics. "And so, I - I just think that it is - it's something that it's in everyone's interest - including, long-term, in China's interest," Biden further added.

IMEEC Mentioned Twice in Connection with Hamas Attack
This marks the second occasion in less than a week when President Biden has mentioned the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) as a possible influence behind the 7th October attack by Hamas, which resulted in the loss of more than 1,400 lives. The subsequent Israeli military response in Gaza has also claimed the lives of over 6,000 Palestinians till now.
Impact of the Conflict
Since the onset of the conflict, Israeli airstrikes have caused severe damage in the Gaza Strip. As per media reports, the United Nations has warned that it is on the brink of running out of fuel in the densely populated enclave, necessitating a sharp reduction in relief efforts. In addition, on Wednesday, 25th October the UN Security Council has failed to address the Israeli-Hamas war, as it rejected rival resolutions presented by the United States and Russia.
