US Hindu Group Slams Peter Navaroo's 'Brahmin Remark', Demands Trump To Sack Him

A Hindu advocacy group named HinduPACT's American Hindus Against Defamation (AHAD) has slammed the recent comments made by a White House adviser Peter Navarro, calling his remarks as "inappropriate and Hinduphobic".

Peter Navarro has stirred controversy with his recent remarks about India. His comments have sparked outrage among the Hindu community, particularly due to his reference to caste and portrayal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a religious context. The Hindu advocacy group is demanding his removal from President Donald Trump's team.

It argues that his rhetoric not only disrespects cultural norms but also poses a threat to the dignity of over a billion Hindus worldwide. The group is concerned that such remarks could harm the relationship between the United States and India, two of the world's largest democracies.

Hindu Community's Reaction

The group was particularly offended by Navarro's comments about "Brahmins profiting at the expense of the Indian people." AHAD criticised this as a colonial stereotype used to divide Hindu society and portray India as inherently unjust. They believe it is not a genuine critique but rather an outdated trope that should be discarded.

Ajay Shah, executive chair of HinduPACT, expressed his disapproval of Navarro's approach. He stated, "This is not foreign policy. It's weaponized Hinduphobia. Dividing Hindus through colonial scripts doesn't build relationships. It destroys them. People like Navarro have no place in American political life."

Concerns Over Modi's Image

Deepti Mahajan, president of AHAD, also voiced her concerns regarding Navarro's use of an image depicting Modi in prayer. She questioned Navarro's intentions, saying, "Saffron is sacred. Prayer is not propaganda. What exactly was Navarro trying to say by using that image?" This sentiment reflects the group's belief that such imagery should not be misused for political purposes.

Navarro recently renewed his criticism of India's actions on Fox News. He accused India of indirectly funding Russia's war in Ukraine through discounted oil purchases. During the interview, he said: "Look, Modi's a great leader. I don't understand why he's getting into bed with Putin and Xi Jinping when he's the biggest democracy in the world."

Navarro's Controversial Remarks

He further added: "So I would just simply say to the Indian people: please, understand what's going on here. You've got Brahmins profiteering at the expense of the Indian people. We need that to stop. Yeah, and we'll be watching that closely." These comments have only intensified calls for action against him from various quarters.
