US-Based Indian-Origin Lawyer Fired Amid Allegations Of 'Inappropriate Relationship' With Firm's CEO
An Indian-origin lawyer, Nabanita Nag, who served as the Chief Legal Officer at Norfolk Southern Corporation, has been fired following an internal investigation into an alleged "inappropriate workplace relationship" with the company's Chief Executive Officer, Alan Shaw.
The investigation revealed that the two were involved in a consensual relationship, but it violated company policies and its code of ethics. As a result, both Nag and Shaw were dismissed from their positions.

In a press release, Norfolk Southern Corporation stated that the decision to remove the two executives was due to violations of company policies, not related to the company's overall performance or financial stability.
"Shaw's departure is unrelated to the company's performance, financial reporting and results of operations," the corporation clarified. While the relationship was consensual, the executives breached ethical standards that led to their termination.
Nabanita Nag had a prominent career at Norfolk Southern, where she played a key role since joining the company in 2020 as General Counsel.
She was later promoted to Chief Legal Officer in 2022 and took on the role of Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs in 2023.
On her LinkedIn profile, Nag describes herself as a "seasoned leader" who has worked with three Fortune 300 public companies. Prior to her role at Norfolk Southern, she had a distinguished career at Goldman Sachs.
Nag holds a bachelor's degree in Government and English from Georgetown University and earned her Juris Doctor (JD) from the New York University School of Law.
In light of these developments, Mark R. George, the company's Chief Financial Officer, has been appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer to fill the leadership gap left by Shaw's departure.
