UP Man Crosses Border: The Unexpected Turn of Events

Badal Babu, 21, from Aligarh, had been an active Facebook user when he struck up a relationship with a woman from Pakistan. He had informed his family that he was heading to Delhi for work, but after leaving his village in August, his family received a reassuring video call from him just before Diwali. He claimed to be safe and employed in the capital.

However, the family's shock turned to disbelief when they learned that Babu had crossed the border near Jammu and was arrested in Pakistan's Mandi Bahauddin district. "We couldn't believe it. Till this moment, we knew he was working in Delhi, but the next moment we find out he's in a Pakistani jail," said his father, Kirpal Singh, visibly distressed.

The Attempted Cross-Border Journey

Babu reportedly tried to meet 21-year-old Sana Rani, whom he had been in contact with for two and a half years on Facebook. However, Rani later told Pakistani police that she was not interested in marrying him, despite his persistent efforts. She confirmed to authorities that Babu illegally crossed into Pakistan, where he was apprehended in her village.

Babu's arrest followed the discovery that he had no legal travel documents and was traveling under unlawful circumstances. He was detained under Pakistan's Foreign Act sections 13 and 14, and a court placed him in judicial custody for 14 days, with the next hearing scheduled for January 10.

Family's Appeal for Help

In a desperate plea for assistance, Badal Babu's family has reached out to the Indian government, specifically asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene. "We want our son back, and we don't know how to bring him home. We are calling on the Prime Minister to help us," said his mother, struggling to understand her son's actions.

Aligarh's Superintendent of Police (Rural), Amrit Jain, confirmed that the family had submitted a memorandum regarding the case. The local authorities are now working with the Ministry of External Affairs to explore possible solutions and seek Babu's release from Pakistani custody.

The Emotional Fallout

Badal Babu's actions have left his family in shock. His mother described him as a "simple boy" who never displayed such behavior before. The situation has left them uncertain about how to navigate the international boundaries to bring their son back home.

As the case progresses, the family's hope remains that diplomatic efforts will resolve the situation and secure Babu's safe return.
