Trump Calls on Putin to Negotiate Peace in Ukraine or Face Sanctions

US President Donald Trump has urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate and end the conflict with Ukraine. Trump warned that failure to do so would result in severe sanctions and trade tariffs. "We can do it the easy way, or the hard way - and the easy way is always better," Trump stated on Truth Social. He emphasised the need for a deal, saying, "NO MORE LIVES SHOULD BE LOST!!!"

Trump Urges Putin to End Ukraine Conflict

Trump expressed his desire not to harm Russia, highlighting his affection for the Russian people and his past positive relationship with Putin. He reminded everyone of Russia's significant role in World War II, noting their immense sacrifices. "We must never forget that Russia helped us win the Second World War, losing almost 60,000,000 lives in the process," he wrote.

Sanctions and Trade Tariffs

The US President declared his intention to impose high taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on Russian goods if negotiations do not occur. He stressed that settling the conflict now would be beneficial for Russia. "Settle now, and STOP this ridiculous War! ITS ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE," he warned.

Trump reiterated his readiness to meet Putin at any time to discuss the situation. He mentioned that millions are affected by the ongoing war, describing it as a "vicious situation" with many casualties. "Anytime they want, I'll meet," he said.

Criticism of Current Leadership

Trump criticised current leadership, suggesting that the war in Ukraine would not have started under his presidency. He claimed to have had a strong understanding with Putin, which would have prevented Russia's actions. "Russia never would have gone into Ukraine," he asserted.

He also commented on the Middle East situation, attributing issues there to Iran's financial state during his tenure. Trump pointed out that Iran was financially struggling when he was in office.

European Union's Role

The former president highlighted the financial burden on the US compared to Europe regarding aid to Ukraine. He argued that the European Union should contribute more than they currently do. "The European Union should equal us," he stated, noting that the US has spent USD 200 billion more than Europe.

Trump mentioned discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about peace efforts. Zelenskyy reportedly expressed a strong desire for peace but acknowledged it requires cooperation from both sides.

Future Discussions

Regarding military support for Ukraine, Trump indicated ongoing discussions with both Zelenskyy and Putin. He mentioned plans to review US involvement soon. "We'll look into that," he said about continuing weapon supplies.

The former president expressed hope for an end to hostilities, emphasising the need for dialogue between involved parties. He reiterated his willingness to meet anytime to facilitate peace talks.
