Trump Encourages Global Businesses to Manufacture in the US or Risk Tariffs at World Economic Forum

US President Donald Trump addressed the World Economic Forum via video conference, offering business leaders incentives to manufacture in the US. He promised low taxes for those who comply and threatened tariffs for those who don't. Trump also plans to urge Saudi Arabia and OPEC to lower oil prices, asserting that reduced prices could end the Russia-Ukraine conflict swiftly.

Trump Calls for US Manufacturing at WEF

Trump highlighted his administration's swift actions to tackle inflation in America, noting that global food prices have surged. He emphasised the US's vast oil and gas reserves, stating, "United States has the largest amount of oil and gas in the world and I'm going to use it." He also pledged significant tax cuts, promising to eliminate ten old regulations for every new one introduced.

Economic Strategies and Global Relations

The president aims to transform America into a manufacturing superpower and a hub for artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency. He mentioned that many companies worldwide have already committed billions of dollars to establish facilities in the US. "We will restore common sense among Americans," he added, expressing confidence in his economic strategies.

Discussing international relations, Trump shared plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, focusing on ending violence rather than economic or resource issues. On US-China relations, he mentioned a positive call with Xi Jinping, expressing hope for improved ties post-COVID. "I like President Xi a lot but COVID strained our relationship," he said.

Domestic Policies and Future Plans

Trump criticised previous administrations for allowing other nations to surpass the US economically. He blamed politicians' "stupidity" for this decline but vowed not to let it happen again. Responding to Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan, Trump expressed hope that conservatives would be allowed to do business with BofA, citing complaints from conservatives.

He reiterated his stance on gender policies, referencing an executive order affirming only two genders in the US. "I've made it an official policy of the United States that there are only two genders, male and female," he stated. This policy includes banning men from participating in women's sports.

Reflecting on his second term's inauguration coinciding with the WEF Annual Meeting's start, Trump declared a new era for America. He claimed his administration achieved more in four days than others did in four years. "A golden age of America has begun," he said, predicting a stronger, united nation leading to global peace and prosperity.

Trump criticised the Biden administration for leaving behind numerous challenges. He described his team's efforts as acting with unmatched speed to address these inherited issues. The president also lamented the massive trade deficit with China and other Asian countries, stressing the need for fairer trade relationships.
