Trump's Executive Orders on Day One: Key Priorities Include Immigration and Energy Regulations

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has outlined a series of executive actions he intends to implement immediately. Among these are orders to cease funding for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, tighten border security, and reduce regulations on oil and natural gas production. While Trump has committed to numerous actions, it remains uncertain if all will be executed on his first day.

Trumps Day One Executive Orders Overview

Trump plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America and revert Mount Denali back to its former name, Mount McKinley. This renaming aims to celebrate "American greatness," according to a preview shared by Trump's incoming press secretary. Additionally, he signed an order mandating flags be flown at full height during future Inauguration Days.

Immigration and Border Security

In immigration matters, Trump intends to declare a national emergency at the US-Mexico border. He plans to deploy US troops to assist immigration agents and restrict refugee and asylum entries. A policy requiring asylum seekers to wait in Mexico is also set for reinstatement, though it's unclear if Mexico will agree to this arrangement again.

The previous implementation of this policy led to overcrowded camps plagued by gang violence along the border. Trump also aims to end birthright citizenship, although its constitutional basis makes this challenging. Furthermore, he has terminated the CBP One app, which facilitated legal entry for nearly a million migrants under Biden's administration.

Economic Measures

On economic fronts, Trump is poised to sign orders reducing regulatory burdens on oil and natural gas production, including specific measures related to Alaska. He also plans a memorandum promoting a government-wide strategy to combat inflation. However, he seems hesitant about imposing tariffs on countries like China, Mexico, and Canada or increasing import taxes.

An official indicated that Trump might only sign a memorandum instructing federal agencies to study trade issues rather than taking immediate action. This approach suggests a cautious stance on international trade policies at present.

Diversity and Transgender Rights

Trump's administration is rolling back protections for transgender individuals and ending diversity, equity, and inclusion programmes within federal agencies. These changes align with his campaign promises and represent significant shifts in federal policy.

A forthcoming order will define only two immutable sexes: male and female, based on biological attributes rather than chromosomes. Federal prisons and shelters will segregate individuals by sex as defined by this order. Additionally, federal funds will not support "transition services," and DEI programmes will be identified and terminated within the government.

Pardons Related to January 6 Capitol Attack

Trump has promised pardons for those convicted in connection with the January 6 Capitol attack but did not mention this in his inaugural speech. Addressing a crowd afterward, he emphasized action over words: "It's action not words that count, and you're going to see a lot of action," he stated.

Energy Policies

In energy policy, Trump plans to declare an energy emergency with a focus on increasing drilling activities. He also intends to eliminate what he terms Biden's electric vehicle mandate. This move reflects his commitment to boosting traditional energy sources while rolling back green energy initiatives.

These proposed actions reflect Trump's broader agenda as he begins his term in office. His focus spans various sectors including immigration, economy, diversity policies, and energy production. The implementation of these measures will significantly impact both domestic policies and international relations in the coming years.
