Security Scare In Moscow: Drone Attack Hits Airport Before Indian MPs' Arrival
Moments before a flight carrying an Indian parliamentary delegation, headed by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, was set to land, a drone strike occurred at Moscow's Domodedovo International Airport. The jet circled the airport for a long time before it was ultimately permitted to land because of the incident. As part of 'Operation Sindoor', a global outreach campaign, the group left India on May 22, 2025.
The arrival of the Indian MPs was delayed because no planes were allowed to land at the time of the incident due to the security threat. Following a protracted flight, the plane successfully touched down, and Vinay Kumar, the Indian Ambassador to Russia, and other embassy staff met the delegates and made sure they were securely taken to their hotel.

Prior to a two-day agenda full of meetings and talks on May 23 and 24, the all-party delegation, led by Kanimozhi, was in Moscow. Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai, BJP MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta (Retd.), RJD MP Prem Chand Gupta, AAP MP Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, and former Indian diplomat Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri are among the group, according to the Indian Embassy in Moscow.
The Indian Embassy stressed in a statement that the visit is in line with India's current Operation Sindoor operations and demonstrates the nation's unwavering opposition to terrorism in all its manifestations.
Senior officials from the Russian Federation's Federation Council and State Duma, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, prominent think tanks, and media representatives are among the people the group is anticipated to meet with.
The embassy reiterated that the visit's goal is to promote diplomatic engagement while conveying India's unwavering stance of zero tolerance for terrorism. The visit demonstrates New Delhi's dedication to international collaboration in strategic discourse and counterterrorism.
