Security Footage from Syria Hospital Captures Armed Men Killing Doctor Amid Clashes

Recent security footage from a hospital in Sweida, Syria, depicts armed men in military attire fatally shooting a doctor during violent clashes. This incident highlights ongoing tensions between various armed groups and government forces in the region.

Footage from security cameras at a hospital in Sweida, southern Syria, surfaced on Sunday, showing the apparent killing of a medical worker by men in military attire. The video, dated July 16, was released by activist media group Suwayda 24 and coincided with intense clashes involving Druze minority militias, armed tribal groups, and government forces.

In the video, widely shared on social media, a group of people in medical scrubs is seen kneeling before armed men. One man is grabbed and struck on the head as if being detained. He resists by wrestling with one of the gunmen before being shot once with an assault rifle and then again with a pistol by another person.

Security Forces and Investigation

A man in a dark jumpsuit labeled "Internal Security Forces" appears to guide the camouflaged men into the hospital. Another camera captures a tank stationed outside. Activist groups claim the gunmen were from Syrian military and security forces. However, a Syrian government official stated they could not immediately identify the attackers and are investigating whether they are government-affiliated or tribal gunmen.

The official, speaking anonymously due to lack of clearance to address the media, mentioned that a committee has been established to investigate civilian attacks during sectarian violence in southern Syria. This committee is expected to release a report within three months.

Impact on Druze Community

The incident at Sweida National Hospital has heightened tensions between the Druze minority and the Syrian government. Clashes in July between Druze and armed Bedouin groups led to targeted sectarian attacks against the Druze community. These events have strained relations with Syria's Islamist-led interim government under President Ahmad al-Sharaa.

Although fighting has mostly subsided, government forces have encircled the southern city. The Druze community claims that little aid is reaching the city, describing it as a siege. This situation complicates President al-Sharaa's efforts to assert full control and disarm Druze factions.

The ongoing violence has further deteriorated ties between the Druze community and the Syrian government. The situation remains tense as investigations continue into the recent incidents of violence and their impact on local communities.
