92-Year-Old Media Tycoon Rupert Murdoch Retires from Fox and News Corp Leadership Roles
The 92-year-old Australian media mogul, Rupert Murdoch, who has been a significant force in American politics due to his creation of Fox News, is set to relinquish his leadership role at both Fox's parent company and his News Corp media holdings. This announcement comes from New York on September 21st as per the Associated Press (AP).
Transition of Power

Fox announced on Thursday that Murdoch would assume the position of chairman emeritus for both companies following board meetings scheduled for November. His son, Lachlan Murdoch, is slated to take over as News Corp chairman while also continuing in his current role as chief executive officer of Fox Corp.
Lachlan expressed gratitude towards his father's contributions and stated: "we are grateful that he will serve as chairman emeritus and know he will continue to provide valued counsel to both companies."
Murdoch's Media Empire
Beyond Fox News, Rupert Murdoch has been instrumental in shaping the media landscape with several other significant entities. He launched the Fox broadcast network which became the first successful challenger against 'The Big Three' networks - ABC, CBS and NBC - featuring popular shows such as "The Simpsons". Additionally, he owns The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post.
In an effort to streamline his corporate portfolio in 2019, Murdoch sold many entertainment assets to Walt Disney Co., including film production rights for Marvel comics characters, National Geographic properties and cable network FX.
Impact on Television & Politics
Since its inception in 1996 under Murdoch’s guidance, Fox News Channel has had a profound influence on television broadcasting norms and national politics. Its conservative-leaning programming made it unique among mainstream news outlets leading some commentators to credit it with reshaping political discourse in America.
Conclusion
Rupert Murdoch's departure from the helm of his media empire marks the end of an era. His influence on American politics and television has been significant, with Fox News Channel being a testament to his impact. While he will continue to provide counsel as chairman emeritus, it is clear that the torch is now passing to his son Lachlan. As this transition unfolds, all eyes will be on how these influential media entities evolve under new leadership.
