Quake measuring 7.4 hits Ascension Island in Atlantic Ocean

Georgetown (Ascension Island), Aug 29: A powerful but shallow earthquake measuring 7.4 hit north of the Ascension Island in central Atlantic Ocean on Monday (aug 29) morning, said the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The agency said the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres. The epicentre of the quake was located 951 kilometres north-northwest of Georgetown, Ascension Island.

The area of the quake has no human habitation within 100 kilometres.
