Poland Arrests 18 on Charges of Planning Sabotage for Russia and Belarus
Over the past six months, Poland has detained 18 individuals under suspicion of engaging in activities hostile to the state or plotting sabotage for Russia and Belarus. Among these, ten were implicated in schemes aimed at causing disruption within Poland through various means, including arson. This announcement was made by Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak during a press briefing.A significant revelation from the arrests includes a Polish national apprehended in April, accused of preparing to conduct espionage for Russian military intelligence. This individual was allegedly involved in a plot targeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The suspect purportedly sought to establish connections with Russians engaged in the conflict in Ukraine, intending to relay comprehensive details about the strategic Rzeszow-Jasionka airport, situated near the Polish-Ukrainian border.

Espionage Ring and Sabotage Plans
Further investigations led to the trial of a Ukrainian and a Belarusian man last month, both accused of participating in a Russian espionage network. Their alleged mission involved preparing for railway sabotage within Poland in 2023 and surveilling rail routes critical for transporting weapons and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. Additionally, their surveillance extended to assessing the security of Baltic Sea ports in Gdansk and Gdynia. Both men have admitted to these charges, facing up to eight years in prison if convicted.Broader Scheme of Disruption
According to Minister Siemoniak, these acts of sabotage are believed to be elements of a larger strategy that also encompasses cyberattacks, the manipulation of migrants in Belarus to provoke border crossings into Poland, and other actions threatening national security. Poland has been a steadfast supporter of Ukraine amidst Russia's aggressive invasion, making it a target for such destabilizing efforts."We have no doubt that on the bidding of a foreign country, Russia, there are some people active who are ready to threaten the life, health, and property of the Polish citizens," Siemoniak stated, highlighting the gravity of the threat posed by these activities. The arrests span across nationals from Poland, Belarus, and Ukraine, underscoring the international dimension of the alleged espionage and sabotage operations. The Internal Security Agency's communiques have played a crucial role in bringing these activities to light, showcasing Poland's vigilance against threats to its sovereignty and security.-
