PM Modi in Austria to Strengthen Bilateral Ties and Address Geopolitical Issues

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Vienna on Tuesday after visiting Moscow. His two-day trip to Austria aims to enhance bilateral ties and address various geopolitical challenges. "Landed in Vienna. This visit to Austria is a special one. Our nations are connected by shared values and a commitment to a better planet. Looking forward to the various programmes in Austria including talks with Chancellor @karlnehammer, interactions with the Indian community and more," Modi posted on X, along with several photographs.

Modis Strategic Austria Visit

Modi was greeted at the airport by Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg. This marks the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Austria in over 40 years; the last visit was by Indira Gandhi in 1983. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson noted on X, "As the two countries are celebrating 75th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations this year, this momentous visit will add renewed momentum to India-Austria ties."

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

On Wednesday, Modi is scheduled to meet with President Alexander Van der Bellen and hold discussions with Chancellor Karl Nehammer. Both leaders will also address business leaders from India and Austria. Ahead of his visit, Modi emphasised that democracy, freedom, and the rule of law are fundamental values shared by both nations, forming the foundation for a closer partnership.

Austrian Chancellor Nehammer expressed his anticipation for Modi's visit on X, stating, "I very much look forward to welcoming Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, the world's largest democracy, next week in Vienna. This visit is a special honour as it marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over 40 years and a significant milestone as we celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations with India."

Shared Values and Future Cooperation

Nehammer highlighted the importance of discussing ways to deepen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation on geopolitical issues. Responding to Nehammer's post, Modi said, "Thank you, Chancellor Karl Nehammer. It is indeed an honour to visit Austria to mark this historic occasion. I look forward to our discussions on strengthening the bonds between our nations and exploring new avenues of cooperation."

The Prime Minister reiterated that shared values such as democracy, freedom, and rule of law are crucial for building a stronger partnership between India and Austria. This visit aims to explore new opportunities for collaboration while celebrating the long-standing diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

This historic visit not only commemorates 75 years of diplomatic relations but also sets the stage for future cooperation between India and Austria. The discussions between Modi and Austrian leaders are expected to pave the way for enhanced bilateral ties and address common geopolitical challenges.
