PM Modi Speaks To Netanyahu, Urges Peace After Israeli Strikes On Iran

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following Israel's extensive military strikes on Iranian nuclear and military targets, amid rapidly growing regional tensions. During the conversation, Netanyahu briefed Modi on the objectives of Operation Rising Lion, highlighting the threat posed by Iran's nuclear ambitions.

According to a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, Netanyahu has held discussions with several world leaders since the strikes began, including the Chancellor of Germany and the President of France. The statement added that these leaders "showed understanding for Israel's defense needs in the face of the Iranian threat of annihilation," and confirmed that Netanyahu will continue engaging with world leaders in the coming days.

Prime Minister Modi conveyed India's concerns during the call, stressing the urgent need to restore peace and stability in the region. He reiterated India's consistent call for restraint and de-escalation, in line with New Delhi's long-standing stance on conflict resolution through dialogue.

Netanyahu is also expected to speak with US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, his office confirmed.

Israel-Iran Conflict Escalation

The conflict between Israel and Iran sharply intensified following Israel's launch of Operation Rising Lion, a military campaign targeting Iranian nuclear and defense facilities. The operation resulted in the deaths of key Iranian military figures, including IRGC chief Hossein Salami, and caused significant damage to Iran's nuclear infrastructure, notably the Natanz uranium enrichment facility.

In retaliation, Iran launched around 100 drones toward Israeli territory. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), most of these drones were successfully intercepted, although the attack marked a major escalation in hostilities.

The global response has been swift. Iran officially withdrew from nuclear negotiations with the United States, accusing Washington of supporting Israeli aggression. The escalation has triggered widespread international concern, with the United Nations, China, and the European Union all urging restraint and diplomatic engagement to avoid a broader regional conflict.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump, while denying any direct American involvement in the strikes, praised Israel's military operation and issued a stern warning to Tehran, stating that further consequences would follow if Iran continued to reject a nuclear agreement.
