PM Modi's Landmark Visits
This visit is being held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Poland. The invitation for this landmark visit was extended by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, as noted by Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West) at the MEA. Following the visit to Poland, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Ukraine on August 23, as reported by Hindustan Times.
This trip will also be historic, being the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine in over 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The invitation for this visit was extended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The visit is expected to build upon the recent high-level interactions between the leaders of the two nations.
In the briefing, Lal reiterated India's stance on the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing that India has consistently advocated for resolution through diplomacy and dialogue. The MEA official stated, "India has maintained a very clear and consistent position that diplomacy and dialogue can resolve this conflict and lead to enduring peace. Lasting peace can only be achieved through options acceptable to both parties and through a negotiated settlement," as reported by Hindustan Times. Lal further elaborated that India is committed to engaging with all stakeholders involved and is prepared to offer support to help find peaceful solutions to the complex issue.
He added, "Prime Minister Modi has had conversations with leaders of both Russia and Ukraine, and his recent visit to Russia underscores India's continued engagement. At this stage, it is not for us to anticipate or prejudge the outcome of these discussions between the leaders of India and Ukraine," as per media reports. Through these visits, India aims to reinforce its diplomatic ties and contribute to resolving international conflicts through dialogue and cooperation.
