PM Modi Invites Ukrainian President Zelenskyy for an Official Visit to India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to visit India during their discussions on Friday. This invitation came during Modi's nearly nine-hour visit to Kyiv, marking the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Ukraine since its independence over three decades ago.

Historic Visit and Invitation
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed the invitation at a media briefing after the talks. He noted, "It is natural on such occasions that he extends an invitation, which he did in this case." Jaishankar added that they expect President Zelenskyy to visit India at a convenient time.
Energy Trade Discussions
During the media briefing, Jaishankar also addressed questions about India's energy trade with Russia. He explained that while the topic was discussed, it wasn't in great detail. "Yes, it did. I wouldn't say at great length, but what we did was to explain to the Ukrainian side what was the energy market scenario," he said.
Jaishankar elaborated on the current energy market conditions, highlighting that many energy producers are sanctioned. This situation has made the market potentially tight. He stated, "Why actually today there is a compulsion, in fact not just a compulsion, I mean why it is in the interest of the international economy as a whole, that oil prices remain reasonable and stable."
Joint Statement
A joint statement released after the talks reiterated Modi's invitation to Zelenskyy. It mentioned that Modi invited Zelenskyy to visit India at a mutually convenient opportunity. This gesture underscores the significance of Modi's visit and India's interest in strengthening ties with Ukraine.
The visit by Prime Minister Modi is significant as it marks the first time an Indian prime minister has visited Ukraine since 1992. This historic visit highlights India's commitment to fostering diplomatic relations with Ukraine and addressing mutual concerns.
The discussions between Modi and Zelenskyy covered various topics, including India's energy trade with Russia. The dialogue aimed to provide clarity on India's position and the global energy market scenario amidst ongoing sanctions on several energy producers.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ukraine and his invitation to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signify a step towards enhancing bilateral relations between India and Ukraine. The discussions on energy trade also reflect India's efforts to maintain stability in global oil prices amidst challenging market conditions.
