PM Modi Advocates For Dialogue Over Conflict At BRICS Summit: A Call For Unity And Diplomacy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his appreciation to Russian President Vladimir Putin for hosting the BRICS Summit in Kazan and for his leadership of the bloc over the past year.
During a closed-door plenary session on Wednesday, PM Modi addressed the pressing challenges facing the BRICS nations, which originally included Brazil, China, and South Africa, and now also comprises Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. He emphasized the impact of military conflicts and the resulting economic crises on member countries.

Highlighting additional threats, Modi pointed to climate change and terrorism, stating, "Preventing inflation, ensuring food, energy, health, and water security are priorities for all nations. We must also address new challenges such as cyber fraud."
Amid these concerns, the Prime Minister noted the heightened expectations placed on the BRICS grouping, asserting that it has the potential to play a constructive role in tackling these issues due to its diverse and inclusive nature.
"In this regard, our approach must remain people-centric. We must convey to the world that BRICS is not a divisive entity; we stand for dialogue and diplomacy, not war," Modi stated. This sentiment echoed his previous discussions with President Putin regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The remarks reflect India's commitment to fostering cooperation and constructive dialogue among BRICS nations while addressing global challenges.
At the Closed Plenary Session of the 16th BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the urgency of the current global landscape, stating, "Our gathering occurs during a time marked by numerous challenges, including wars, conflicts, economic instability, climate change, and terrorism. Discussions about the North-South and East-West divides are prevalent in today's world. Furthermore, the rapid advancement of technology has introduced new issues, such as cybersecurity threats, deep fakes, and disinformation.
Given this context, there are heightened expectations from BRICS. I firmly believe that, as a diverse and inclusive platform, BRICS can contribute positively to addressing these concerns. Our approach must remain people-centric, conveying to the world that BRICS is not a divisive entity but rather a coalition focused on public interest."
