Pakistan Advises Its Citizens in Kyrgyzstan to Remain Indoors After Attacks
In a recent turn of events, Pakistani nationals in Kyrgyzstan have been advised to remain indoors following a series of attacks targeting foreigners in Bishkek, the capital city. The violence, which erupted last week due to a conflict between Kyrgyz locals and migrants, prompted immediate action from the Pakistani government to ensure the safety of its citizens abroad.

The Foreign Ministry of Pakistan disclosed that the Pakistani embassy in Bishkek is actively coordinating with the Kyrgyz government to safeguard Pakistani nationals after the disturbances on Friday night. Reports from local media indicate that the unrest began following an altercation between Kyrgyz individuals and foreigners, leading to riots in Bishkek. In response to these incidents, some injured Pakistani students received medical treatment at a local hospital in Bishkek.
"The Government of Pakistan takes the matter of the safety and security of its nationals around the world very seriously and will take all necessary measures to ensure their wellbeing," stated the ministry. This commitment was further underscored on Saturday when Pakistan summoned a Kyrgyz diplomat to express its concerns over the violence inflicted upon its citizens.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also voiced his alarm over the attacks on Pakistani students in Kyrgyzstan. In a decisive move, he announced that he is dispatching a senior Cabinet minister to Bishkek to oversee efforts aimed at securing the welfare of the wounded students. Sharif assured that those wishing to return home from Bishkek would receive comprehensive assistance from the government.
Despite these efforts, Pakistani authorities have yet to confirm any fatalities among their nationals due to the attacks. It is estimated that thousands of Pakistanis are currently residing in Kyrgyzstan, either for educational purposes or employment. The situation remains tense, and the Pakistani government continues to monitor developments closely, prioritizing the safety and security of its citizens abroad.
