Pakistan Faces Surge In Terror: 59 Attacks And 84 Deaths Due To Balochistan Insurgency
Pakistan has been grappling with a significant rise in terror attacks over the past two months.
According to the Islamabad-based Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), the country experienced a staggering 59 terror incidents last month alone, resulting in the deaths of 84 people.

Balochistan Region Hits Hard
The Balochistan province, particularly affected by ongoing violence, has seen intensified attacks in recent weeks. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) was responsible for the deaths of nearly 40 individuals in Musakhail and Qalat districts last month. Further violence erupted when the United Baloch Army (UBA) ambushed a security patrol in Nemoragh, Qalat, killing three security personnel, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Additionally, in the Turbat district, the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) executed a grenade attack on a security checkpost. The number of casualties remains unconfirmed by Pakistani authorities, though reports indicate both deaths and injuries among security forces.
Economic Marginalization and Rising Tensions
Despite its rich natural resources, Balochistan remains economically marginalized, exacerbating local grievances and fueling unrest. The PIPS report highlights the BLA's increasing capabilities and the adoption of new tactics, such as targeting Punjabis on highways after checking identity cards. These actions could further strain relations between Balochistan and the central government, as per media reports.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under Siege
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) region has also faced a surge in violence. On Sunday, unidentified terrorists shot and killed a police officer in Mandan. In another incident, an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists exploded in the Salarzai area, resulting in one death and two injuries. KP witnessed 29 terrorist attacks last month, with 25 people killed and 80 injured, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Various militant groups, including the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group, Lashkar-i-Islam, and Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K), have been implicated in these attacks.
Official Responses and Ongoing Concerns
The rise in terror attacks underscores the ongoing security challenges in Pakistan and highlights the complex dynamics of militancy in the region. As the country grapples with these issues, the central government's response and efforts to address underlying grievances will be crucial in restoring stability and ensuring public safety.
